For further study on the topic of baptism in the name of Jesus, see David K. Bernard’s books In the Name of Jesus and The New Birth, and David S. Norris’s book I Am. These books . The book is written from the perspective of the baby being baptized. It also contains short essays on why we baptize, water in baptism, the baptism of Christ, anointing with oil and the baptismal gown. In the back are pages for photographs and “My Baptism Memories.”.

Before each baptism, I take a few minutes to explain why we practice infant baptism in our church. My explanation always includes some–but rarely is there time for all–of the following: It our great privilege this morning to administer that sacrament of baptism to one of our little : Kevin Deyoung.   Doctrine and Principles. From Mosiah 18 and other examples, it is clear that in the Book of Mormon baptism is a symbol for the covenant that mortals make with God.4 No other book of ancient scripture makes this point as clearly.. Alma and his people, wherever they were, made finding sources of “pure water” a priority (Mosiah ). This suggests that Alma and his people recognized how.

Galatians - We “put on Christ” when we are baptized. 1 Peter - Baptism is not an outward cleaning, but saves us through an inward cleaning. It is an appeal to God for a good conscience and asks God to take away the guilt of our past sin (that Christ paid for, wiping our “inner slate” clean). BECAUSE IN BAPTISM WE ARE "RAISED WITH HIM" through faith in the operation of God, i.e., baptism demonstrates in the physical realm our faith about what God is doing in the spiritual realm When we are baptized (Colossians 2: 12).File Size: 85KB.

According to 1 Peterwhat are two reasons why baptism is necessary?. 6 Is it really necessary to get baptized. Consider the words found at 1 Peter (Read.) Just Why We Are Baptised book the ark was visible proof of Noah’s faith, your baptism is discernible evidence of your dedication to Jehovah.

Now I want to tie all of this together and draw some principles in outline form to show why baptism matters: 1.

Baptism is distinct from saving faith. In baptism, a person confesses his or her faith in Christ. But saving faith is distinct from baptism, and it is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that saves, not baptism.

Why should we get baptized. "My goal in this little book is pastorally to explain the scriptural foundation for infant baptism. To do this I will first present the biblical support for infant baptism as I have presented it in new members' and church officer training classes over the past twenty-five years.

Baptism is a public ceremony conducted by Christians where one person either dunks another person in water or, as some denominations practice, sprinkles or pours water on a person's head.

There are several reasons to be baptized. We get baptized because Jesus commanded it. Baptism is a public identification with Christ. Many would say that you should be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Is that really the way taught throughout Scripture. Or are we to baptize in the name of Jesus as the Apostles did throughout the book of Acts. Baptism is Crucial. Before we go too far is important that we first point out the importance of baptism. In the book of Romans, Paul refers to baptism as a newness of life, Romans states, “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death.

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

The Bible first mentions Christian baptism in its accounts of John the Baptist. The baptism of John was for the remission (forgiveness) of sins. “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance Repentance is the act of regretting sincerely the sin in your past with the goal to never do it again.

It is making a decision to turn away from evil. We believe that baptism is an ordinance of the Lord by which those who have repented and come to faith express their union with Christ in his death and resurrection, by being immersed in water in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

When we are saved, we are “baptized” by the Spirit into the Body of Christ, which is the church. First Corinthians says, “We were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”.

First, baptism is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. As we stand in the water we are representing Christ on the cross. As we are dipped underwater we illustrate the burial.

We bury the “old life” and we rise to walk in a “new life”. Baptism is like a wedding ring, it is the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart, a commitment that has to be followed through and lived out on a daily basis. For all we may not understand about baptism, we can be sure of one thing—it is a holy moment.

1 There is also the case of the disciples of John the Baptist in Acts They had been baptized by John but were unacquainted with the role of the Holy Spirit. Upon receiving instruction, they sought to be baptized in the name of Jesus. Can we affect the fate of those who have perished.

The phrase being reference that seems to refer to a baptism for the dead is in verse 29 of 1Corinthians It should be noted that the seeming linkage between baptism and the dearly departed is found only in this place in the entirety of verse in question is the following. Baptism signifies one’s entrance into God’s visible covenant people.

Why do we baptize infants as well as adults. 1) There are several times in the book of Acts where entire “households” are baptized (e.g.

Acts ; Acts ). Presumably there were small children and even infants in these households, and everyone was Size: 98KB. The Commandment to Be Baptized.

Why must we be baptized. For teachers: Use questions at the beginning of a section to start a discussion and send class members or family members to the text to find more questions at the end of a section to help class members or family members ponder and discuss the meaning of what they have read and apply it in their lives.

The book of Acts talks about numerous different kinds of baptism, and also uses baptism to show transitions in the spread of the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Redeeming God Liberating you. Why do all people need to repent. 12 There is something else that you must do before you can get baptized.

The apostle Peter said: “Repent, therefore, and turn around so as to get your sins blotted out.”() What does it mean to repentIt means to feel very sorry for any wrong that we have done. For example, if you lived a sexually immoral life, then you would need to repent.

We can learn a lot about the importance of baptism since it is prevalent throughout the book of Acts when the early church was being established. In almost every case, believers were baptized immediately after salvation, highlighting the importance of quickly obeying the command to be baptized. After baptism, into what has a person been baptized?

We just quoted Romans Recall that it said we are “baptized into Jesus Christ.” Christ explained that we are “baptized into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Nowhere does the Bible say that we are baptized “into either a denomination or some particular church. John, knowing Jesus’ true identity and perfection, protested, saying it was Jesus who should baptize him, not the other way around.

Jesus was perfect, and one purpose of baptism is to wash away sins. He wondered why Jesus wanted to be baptized. Jesus taught us regularly that we were to follow his example.
